Aunt Rose passed away this morning. I am going to miss her a great deal. She always talked to me in Spanish and nobody else really knew what we were talking about. It was great because she always said somebody had a big butt or they had bad breath or something. She knew how to dish very politely. She also knew how to throw a party. I miss you Rosita.

I got Gentoo installed on my old intel box. It went pretty well. I decided to do the installation from the live cds. This let me build a bootable system that would boot and install much like what I the old Redhat systems. This got me up and running fairly quickly with minimal pain and suffering. Once I had the base system installed, I did an emerge of the world and went away for a day to let the pot simmer.

A Porsche Cayman for 5K What's the Catch?
I got an email from Amex telling me that I can buy a brand new Porsche Cayman for $5000. This car has an MSRP of about $50k. So what's the catch? It turns out that there are only three cars for sale at this price and they go on sale at three times during the day. So it's more like a lottery than a sale, but what the heck with that kind of discount why wouldn't you want to at least give it a try? My only worry is that the tax man will show up and expect you to pay taxes on the difference between the sale price and the MSRP, but Porsche is probably claiming the difference anyway. I am probably killing my chances to get the car by posting this, but what the heck, give it a shot.
Oh, one other catch, you have to have an Amex card to participate. The good news is they have a way for you to sign up right on the page.

I was just listening to some old Bob Schneider music and I came across Concrete Pie. What a cool song. Some people can't get past the stuff he does with his voice using some sort of digital processing. It was all the rage in about 2000. Anyway, the deep meaning of the song got me to thinking, that indeed; "With concrete you only get one bite." Listen to the song sometime if you get a chance. It's not one of Bob's most popular songs, but you should hear it at least once.
In the mean time here's an excerpt:
One night Toby got way too high and cut himself a piece of that concrete pie.
Forty seven stories and a ghastly sigh, forty seven stories and a ghastly sigh.
Even if you've got a big appetite with the concrete pie you only get one bite.
Ok, it's a little creepy.
Here's a sample of the song. (Sorry Mac OSX users, it's an MS applet)

So here's the new "Holiday Card". If you didn't get one this year, it's not because we don't love you. We just don't have your current address. Send it to us and you can get one of these puppies in your mailbox. Well, actually you won't get this one, because we don't have any left, but we will send you spmething next year.
For those of you who have gotten the cards in the past, pull them out and compare how much "little" Hefito has grown in the past 2 years. At this point he is taller than both of us. The photo was take so that I was standing slightly up hill on our driveway so I seem to be taller by an inch or two. What can I say, hubris has a hold on me.
